Polaris 360 Always In Reverse

Polaris 360 Always In Reverse - Polaris 360 backup valve stuck

The Polaris 360 swimming pool cleaner has an inline backup valve that intermittently comes on to pull the Polaris in reverse just in case it gets stuck on something, but sometimes the Polaris 360 backup valve gets stuck. The Polaris 360 will be in constant reverse if the inline backup valve gets stuck in the valve open position. When the valve opens it shoots a stream of water toward the Polaris 360 that causes the Polaris to be pulled in the direction of the backup valve.

The valve opens and closes as a small impeller inside of it spins with the water pressure and opens the valve to point a jet of water toward the Polaris. if the impeller gets stuck it is possible for the water jet to remain open and to continue pulling the Polaris around the swimming pool.

If you suspect your inline valve may be at fault you will need to pull your Polaris 360 from the water and remove the hoses from the backup valve. The end where the water enters is where you will see the impeller. I usually take a can of air, the same ones they use to clean computers with, and blow into the impeller until it spins freely. Using a mirror, look into the other end of the valve as you blow into the impeller side, and you should see the valve open and close. Once you are satisfied that it is spinning freely re-attach the hoses and give it a try, it should work great.
Ultimate Swimming Pool Maintenance Guide!
It is best that you don't use air from an air compressor to turn the impeller because the air stream would be too strong and may damage the impeller.
